Finely detailed, unused and undivided-back c. 1901-1907 postcard of the Boon Island Light near York Beach, ME. The present lighthouse, built in 1854, is the tallest lighthouse in New England, with a stone tower that's 133 feet high. Nearly $20,000 was spent in 1854 for "procuring illuminating apparatus, and completing the light-house tower and buildings;" in January 1855, a second-order Fresnel lens went into operation. After the blizzard of 1978, the light was automated and, in 1993, the second-order Fresnel was replaced with a modern optic. The Fresnel is now on display at the Kittery Historical and Naval Museum. Published by W. C. Hildreth of York Beach, and a desirable nautical or York County collectible in excellent condition.
