Scarce c. 1920s real-photo postcard of the Point-a-Pierre oil refineries on the Caribbean island of Trinidad. Sugar-producing estates such as Bon Accord, Bonne Aventure, Concorde, La Carriere, Plaisance and Plein Palais were once located where the oil refinery is now; by 1913, the Trinidad Leaseholds Limited oil company had purchased the estates and opened what was a small oil storage area. Between 1913 and 1956, the oil company became one of the most important refineries in the Western Hemisphere. During World War II, it was the largest source refinery in the British empire, and was vital to the Battle of Britain. Texaco bought the company in 1956;it's now operated by Petrotrin, the state-owned oil company. Published by Y De Lima and Co. of Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, and a desirable petroliana or Caribbean collectible in excellent condition.
