Unused c. 1940s EKC real-photo postcard of the Puerta del Sol monument at the archaeological ruins of Tiwanuku (also known as Tiahuanaco and Tiahuanacu) in western Bolivia, on the shores of Lake Titicaca and about 44 miles west of La Paz, Bolivia in South America. Tiwanuku, an important pre-Columbian archaeological site, is recognized by Andes Mountains scholars as an important precursor of the Inca Empire. It's thought to have been founded around 1200 B.C., flourishing for approximately 500 years. This stone portal, weighing about 10 tons, is believed to have been part of a larger building on top of the Pyramid of Akapana. The location is now a UNESCO world heritage site. Sharply focused and finely detailed, great clarity. A desirable Bolivean or South American collectible in excellent condition.
