Scarce unused 1942 Curteich large-letter greetings postcard from the Smoky Hill Army Air Field in Salina, KS. During World War II, the airfield was used as a B-17 and B-29 bomber staging area for heavy bombardment units going overseas. The facility was renamed as the Smoky Hill Air Force Base in 1948 and again renamed as Schilling Air Force Base in 1956. Schilling closed in 1965 and became Salina's airport. A desirable Saline County, military or aviation collectible in near-mint condition.
