Nicely detailed and unused 1966 Curteich postcard showing Colonel Henry Wooldridge’s folk art monuments in Maplewood Cemetery at Mayfield, Kentucky! Carved in Italy and erected in 1894 prior to his death, the monument grouping was Col. Wooldridge’s way of showing appreciation and affection for people and animals he loved. Monuments in effigy include himself on a horse, his parents, twin sisters, three brothers, a great-grand-niece, his favorite foxhound, “Bob,” and his deer hound, “Towhead.” A fox and deer are two of the other animals shown. Never married, Col. Wooldridge is the only person buried in this crowded plot, his body resting in a stone vault in front of his statue. Great example of American folk art. Photo by L. D. Thompson, published by Mid-South Products of Paris, TN, and a desirable Graves County collectible in excellent condition!
