Handsome unused 1936 postcard of old “Hercules,” a steam engine used by the Mammoth Cave Railroad to ferry passengers between Glasgow Junction (Park City) and Mammoth Cave, Kentucky! Hercules, or No. 3, was a used locomotive purchased in 1888 by the Louisville & Nashville Railroad, which operated the Mammoth Cave Railroad. It was a Baldwin “dummy” 0-4-2T-type steam engine, formerly used on a street railway. The MCR ceased operations in 1931, and the locomotive went on display in Mammoth Cave National Park. A desirable regional or railroadiana collectible in excellent condition!
