Nicely detailed and unused c. 1925 postcard of Traveler's Rest, the home of Revolutionary War hero General Horatio Gates at Kearneysville, West Virginia! In October 1777, Gates notably led troops to the first great American victory of the Revolutionary War, when General John Burgoyne's army of almost 6,000 men surrendered at Saratoga, New York. Gates was later defeated by General Charles Cornwallis at Camden, South Carolina in 1780. After the war, Gates emancipated his slaves and moved to New York state. Published by the Shenandoah Publishing House of Strasburg, VA, and a desirable Jefferson County or Revolutionary War collectible in very good condition!
