Finely detailed and graphically striking divided-back postcard, c. 1907-1915, of Kalaloa (Flammeo Scythrops), a Hawaiian species of fish! Published by the Hawaii and South Seas Curio Co. of Honolulu (No. 234), with the logo of the aquarium at Waikiki on the reverse. Not postally used until 1944, when an Army private stationed in Saipan sent the card to his daughter for Christmas, with the poignant message: “Daddy hopes you like this fish to play with. I bet you can’t wait ‘til Santa brings you all your toys. Are you being a good girl for Mother? Daddy sure loves you, Bobbie.” Franked mail. A scarce Hawaiiana, militaria or fishing collectible in good condition, would look great framed!
