Finely detailed and graphically striking, this unused c. 1914 postcard was signed by German postcard artist Hans Baluschek (1870-1935). Born in Breslau and trained in Berlin, he was a graphic artist and painter who, beginning in 1900, was associated with the "Berlin Secession" movement, a group of progressive artists opposing Imperial Germany's mainstream culture. He produced a number of patriotic views during World War I, of which this is one. Denounced as a "degenerate" by the Nazis in 1933, he died in 1935. In excellent condition.
