Scarce 1908 postcard of U.S. regular Army troops at Ft. Thomas, Kentucky. The military base was established in 1890, after the site was personally selected by General Philip Sheridan, who predicted that Fort Thomas would become "the West Point of the West." The U.S. 6th Infantry was based at the post, which was named Fort Thomas in honor of General George Henry Thomas. A later claim to fame came on February 25, 1937, when Paul Tibbets enlisted at Fort Thomas as a flying cadet in the United States Army Air Corps. Tibbets is the pilot who dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. Postmarked in 1909, and part of the Kentucky Special Series Art Cards published by the Kraemer Art Co. of Cincinnati. A desirable Campbell County or militaria collectible in very good condition.
