Handsome unused 1941 postcard of Chief Rain-in-the-Face, a famous Sioux native American Indian chief who is believed to have personally killed General George A. Custer at the Battle of Little Big Horn in Montana! Born on the Cheyenne River in North Dakota in 1835, he took part in the Fetterman massacre in 1866 and was continually at war with neighboring tribes and with the whites until 1872. He was arrested in 1873 by Colonel Tom Custer for killing a surgeon and a trader. The chief was imprisoned for a time but released by his guard to join Sitting Bull. He declared that he would cut out the heart of Tom Custer and eat it, and was a leader in the battle at Little Big Horn. He died at the Standing Rock reservation in 1905. From G. I. Groves' 1941 "Famous American Indian Series," No. 5, and a desirable native Americana collectible in excellent condition!
