Scarce Azo Tri 1 c. 1918 real-photo postcard of Louisa Cody, widow of Buffalo Bill Cody, and Chief Red Wolf, an Oglala Sioux and American Indian scout who worked with Buffalo Bill. Cody, a soldier, bison hunter and showman, was one of the most colorful figures of the American Old West, famous for shows he organized which had cowboy themes. The photo caption reads: "Chief Red Wolf and Mrs. W. F. Cody." A photographer's initials are at bottom left but are illegible. Unmailed, the card reads on the reverse: "Compliments of Mrs. W. F. Cody. My Foster Mother and Chief Red Wolf, an old Indian Scout of Buffalo Bill's. Borned on Pineridge, S. Decota [the Pine Ridge, South Dakota Indian reservation]." Along the bottom is written the date January 8, 1856. Was it Chief Red Wolf's birth date, or that of Mrs. Cody, who died in 1921? Cody, Wyoming, in Park County, is listed as the location. A desirable native American, Wyoming or Wild West collectible in excellent condition.
