Scarce and graphically striking unused 1916 Azo Tri 1 real-photo postcard showing the 1st Illinois Cavalry band at the railroad station in Brownsville, Texas, where they arrived to participate in fighting Pancho Villa's Mexican Revolution forces! Band members pose around a drum which says: "Chas. Horn/Chief Musician," with the band mascot, some sort of bull terrier, standing to the right! Finely detailed, this card has everything going for it. The First Illinois Cavalry was the only Illinois military unit which was stationed at Brownsville. On 18 June 1916, President Woodrow Wilson, reacting to Villa's attack on Columbus, New Mexico, mobilized the National Guard. Ten days later, on 28 June, Illinois troops left Springfield, IL for San Antonio, with the exception of the First Cavalry and its trip to Brownsville, TX. A desirable military collectible in excellent condition!
