Handsome 1917 postcard of the Cooks' and Bakers' School at Camp Devens, on the outskirts of Ayer, Massachusetts! Nicely detailed, showing buildings still under construction - the largest labor force ever assembled in the United States worked here in 1917 to build a city for 10,000. Only the Quartermaster Corps buildings remain from that period; the Cooks and Bakers' School is long gone. Later known as Fort Devens, the base closed in 1995. Bears a Fitchburg, MA postmark from the Devens Branch, and is a desirable Middlesex County or militaria collectible in excellent condition!
