NIcely detailed and unused c. 1930s EKKP real-photo postcard of Yamashiro, atop Hollywood and Sunset Blvds. in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles, CA! This Japanese compound, an exact replica of a palace in the Yamashiro Mountains of Japan, was built in 1914 to house the Bernheimer brothers' collection of Asian antiques. After one of the brothers died in 1922, the contents were auctioned off and Yamashiro became home to the exclusive "400 Club," of movie stars and film industry executives. There were rumors during World War II that Yamashiro was a Japanese signal tower, and the estate was vandalized and then repainted and turned into a boy's military academy. After the war, Thomas O. Glover, a developer, bought the property intending to tear down the complex, but he became taken by fine silk wallpaper found under black paint and decided that Yamashiro was too beautiful to demolish. The property is now used as an upscale restaurant. A desirable Los Angeles County, movie memorabilia or Japanese collectible in excellent condition!
